In January, I decided to try to give up coffee. Honestly, I love coffee, but for me its less about the taste or the caffeine jolt and more about the actual act of drinking it. Its warm and comforting, but I am really sensitive to caffeine so downing a whole cup of coffee every morning usually leaves me feeling jittery and I am fed up with the mid-day crash.
In an effort to still be a whole person during the day, I decided to replace coffee with matcha. Matcha has a slightly lower level of caffeine than coffee does, but has two amino acids, L-theanine and theophylline, that help your body metabolize the caffeine better (ie. the caffeine HYPE without the CRASH). After trying to drink matcha with just water and realizing its quite bitter and slightly repulsive on its own, I came up with a latte recipe that is super easy and tastes really good.
My matcha latte only requires a few ingredients. I use my Nutribullet to blend everything together to avoid green clumps of matcha powder, but you can order a matcha kit off of Amazon that comes with a whisk designed specifically for de-clumping the matcha.
What You’ll Need:
- 1-2 teaspoons of Matcha Powder
- 2 dashes of Stevia
- 2 cups of Almond milk
- Dash of cinnamon
What To Do:
- Add your almond milk and cinnamon to a microwave-safe bowl
- Microwave almond milk until hot (as hot as you want it)
- Pour hot almond milk into a Nutribullet cup
- Add stevia & matcha
- Screw on Nutribullet blade
- Blend until smooth
- Pour latte into a mug and enjoy 🙂
