I spent a brisk 24-hours in Miami, Florida. The busy beach city buzzes constantly. It’s loud and breezy and humid enough to give even the straightest of hair a gentle wave.
Miami was the last stop in a long week of working in Florida. I went on a work trip with Andrew and we worked in Pensacola, Tampa, and then finally Miami. It was a week full of different hotels, long car rides, and coffee shop hopping.
Moxy Miami South Beach
We stayed at the Moxy in South Beach. It’s on Washington Ave and is perfectly located between the beach and the popular South Beach hot spots. I felt like we stayed right in the middle of everything; even if we didn’t have the time to see “everything”, I knew it was all there. 😂
We arrived on Wednesday night around 7 o’clock. We quickly got to our room and changed out of our road trip clothes and into something for dinner. Our room was white and pink and black. The wall shared between the shower and the bedroom had a half-circle window cut into it with frosted glass. It made the shower feel like a fishbowl.
We really had no idea where we were going to go for dinner; we just started walking down Washington Ave towards Espanola Way.
Moonlight on Espanola Way
Espanola Way is a street lined with tables paired with umbrellas and umbrellas draped with twinkly lights. Each restaurant seats more tables outside than it could ever fit inside. We strolled down peaking at each restaurant’s menu and assessing the wait until we found Moonlight. The owner was there at the front to greet us and review the menu. It was an eclectic Medditerean menu with a unique combination of Italian, Greek, & Turkish items. We sat outside under the awning as the rain started coming down. We had the Half Moon Meze for an appetizer which consisted of warm pita bread and 3 different dips: whipped feta, roasted pepper, and hummus. For dinner, we shared the Taste Kebab. It was a lamb stew cooked in a clay pot topped with dough. The dough turned into this beautiful bread lid in the oven that they take off and pour the clay pot out onto. It was incredible.
Suite Habana Café
Thursday morning, I picked my fourth and final coffee shop of the week, Suite Habana Cafe. I sat on a couch and set up my office for the day. I had a Hazelnut Almond Milk Latte topped with cinnamon. Everyone that worked there was super friendly. It was bright and humming with fellow coffee addicts and remote workers.
Casablanca On The River
After my workday at Suite Habana, I was ready for lunch. We had chatted with the owner of Moonlight about some good spots to check out during our 24-hour stay and he suggested Casablanca On The River. It’s exactly what the name says, on the river. We watched yachts pass by and enjoyed our last meal in Miami. We got the ceviche trio. The ceviche was insanely fresh and flavorful and each one was so different.
South Pointe Park
After lunch, we drove to South Pointe Park. The entrance to the park has several beautiful square stone water features. We mosied through the park and walked down towards the beach and pier. It felt good to go for a bit of a walk after sitting at the coffee shop on my laptop all day. It was sweltering in the sun, but the breeze made it tolerable. It was one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen. The sand was bright white and the water was super blue.
Even though our flight wasn’t until 7 pm, we gave ourselves a ton of extra time and headed to the airport around 3:45 pm. Traffic getting to the airport was insane and the line at the airport checkpoint was the longest checkpoint line I’ve ever seen. By the time we finally got to the lounge, we only had about an hour and a half before boarding.
We ate a quick dinner in the lounge. Andrew finished up work for the day and I continued reading Present Over Perfect.
I hope you guys enjoyed this travel diary! There is so much to do in Miami. We are already talking about making a real (non-work) trip back.
