I can’t believe it’s GONNA BE MAY. (if you read that and heard NSYNC let me know 😂). After a rollercoaster of warm and cold temperatures, we’ve had our first long stretch of warm weather a few weeks ago and I think the sunshine is finally here to stay. I don’t know about you, but my April was BUSY. Most of it was self-inflicted because once it creeps over 60 degrees I add a thousand things to my to-do list and don’t want to slow down, but a busy month just means a month full of magic, so let’s dive in!
Everyday magic is a monthly list of things that have been bringing me joy during the month. The list will be an eclectic combination of the exciting and the ordinary, the obviously newsworthy and the mundane. It will contain anything from events to books to products.
Started working on our garden. Last summer, I got the gardening itch late in the game. We removed 3 neglected rose bushes from our front landscaping that I replaced with 3 bushes and a few flowers. It was a bit of a fail, I’ll admit. This year I was determined to start gardening earlier in the spring. Last weekend, we decided to remove 4 more bushes from the front landscaping and re-locate the 3 bushes that we planted last year to take their place. This left me with a wide-open spot in front of our crape myrtle to start a little flower bed. I also planted peonies and hydrangeas in the backyard. Don’t worry, we fenced them off to keep the dogs away from them. Now I’m obsessed with taking care of them and checking on their progress.
Found my springtime Starbucks order. A Venti Matcha Latte with Sweet Cream Cold Foam and add Strawberry Puree to the Cold Foam. Thank me laterrrrrr. 😋
Went on a work trip to Savannah with Andrew. For the 2 years that I have been working from home, I have been glued to my desk. Working from home for me has really just meant that I live at work. I wish I was being dramatic. I would rarely take a meeting from the Teams App on my phone even if I knew I was just on the call to listen. I would get anxious about having bad service or not having my computer right in front of me to research or find something if someone asked a question. For the past several months, I’ve been trying to improve my work-life balance and my relationship with my desk (read phone and laptop). I’m trying to be more mindful of the hours that I’m “online” and not let a 9-5 workday turn into an 8-7 or 9-8 workday.
So when Andrew invited me to tag along on a work trip to Savannah. I decided to really test out this whole “working remote” thing. I packed up my desk and we drove down. Turns out, these laptops work really well basically anywhere 😂 I set up at the most beautiful coffee shop, Franklin’s, and that was my office for the day. If you’d like to read about how we spent 36 hours in Savannah, I wrote all about it in a travel diary!
Hosted Easter at our house. I have a love-hate relationship with hostessing. There I said it. It goes against my Italian DNA, but cooking a large meal for a large hungry crowd stresses me into hives just thinking about it. I love to cook and I love to have people over, but cooking a large meal and timing everything to come out at the right time, STRESS. I don’t know what happened to me though on Easter Sunday, but I wasn’t stressed at all. We left church, had breakfast at my parent’s house, and then Andrew and I came home to straighten up and get all the cooking started. We just started chugging along, a thing at a time. By the time my parents, grandma, and sisters arrived we already had the ham in the oven, the mac n cheese made, and the stuffed artichokes started. when my mom got there she jumped in and before I knew it everything was ready.
Love always,
