I was growing tired of the mirror that we had hanging over our console table. It was one of the first pieces of decor we bought when we went under contract for our house, but as my style has moved further away from Farmhouse, it just didn’t seem to fit anymore.
I had my eye on the Eagan Wall Mirror from Pottery Barn, but the thought of spending $700 on a mirror kind of made my stomach turn. When I found this easy IKEA hack on TikTok to make the mirror for MUCH less – I sold the idea to Andrew and he was on board.
The absolute rockstar of this project was Andrew actually. I lost patience with it pretty quickly after a few failed attempts to measure everything out and Andrew valiantly took over (he has a thousand times the patience I do). Another rockstar was a pair of miter shears that we grabbed at Home Depot for $26, but the miter shears were Andrew’s idea.
We purchased 3 – 4 packs of Mirror Lots from IKEA, so we had 12 square mirrors to work with. Make sure to measure the mirrors! Do not make the same mistake I did and trust when the packaging says 12 x 12. They are not 12 x 12 and this will impact how much trim you need and what size you need your plywood to be.
We also don’t recommend using spray paint. We tried spray paint on a few test pieces of trim and the quality just wasn’t there. It made the wood look cheap and well, spray painted. We opted to paint the trim by hand with a sponge brush and Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black. It has a beautiful matte finish and doesn’t need to be sealed.
Everything You’ll Need :
- Miter Shears
- Mirror Lots from IKEA
- 1/2 Inch Plywood
