I have been building my business wardrobe for over a year now. Most of it has been under the pressure of my MBA program, which has a “business casual at all times” dress code, but some of it has been me trying to prepare myself for my first, big-kid, real-life job.
But of course, after spending all that time buying dress pants, closed-toe heels, and blazers, I land my first job at an office that has a laid-back atmosphere and a super casual dress code to match.
So after deeming my closet a useless wasteland and mourning the loss of all the cute matching skirt and halter top sets that I could have bought instead, I’ve started to try to wear the business pieces in ways that make them wearable for every day and, dare I say, comfortable and fun. I think the key is picking out a basic business piece, like these culottes, pairing it with a fun top, and adding in some interesting jewelry.
For anyone who knows me, you’ll know that I hate wearing heels and I’m not super into accessorizing (gah I just want to be comfortable, ok??). My jewelry collection includes my nearly daily staples that are classic, versatile pieces. I buy the occasional piece of fun and trendy jewelry from Forever21, but other than that I keep things pretty simple. My thumb ring and gold hoop earrings are my current everyday ride or die’s, but lately, I’ve been looking for something new to wear on my wrist.
I really like watches, but don’t like how they can feel heavy and clunky on my wrist.
